Nudity in Japanese film is restricted by Article 175 of the Japanese Criminal Code relating to the Public Hygiene Law. This law bans "obscenity" (waisetsu)which has been interpreted since the 1960's to mean that Japanese films cannot show EXPLICIT depictions of genitalia or sexual intercourse.Jul 25, 2016
Crunchyroll normally obtains the TV broadcast version which is censored by the studio/network that makes it before Crunchyroll gets it.
On March 17, 2017, IGN released a clip of the Berserk English dub and was announced that the series will be distributed by Funimation, but the series was dubbed by Bang Zoom! Entertainment.
After much google-fu, I've also found out a US release of Berserk 2016 uncensored on Blu Ray is scheduled for January 2018 by Funimation, with preorder price set at $48.74. Digging around a bit it looks like you can get the discs a little cheaper (around $5 cheaper) on Amazon.Nov 14, 2017
This series is a direct continuation of the Golden Arc trilogy of 'Berserk' films. These films are a condensed version of the 1997 series that was based on the manga of the same name.
- It is not a big budget anime but an epic series to watch on a large screen TV. The episodes are addictive to watch one after the other and the story is well written. This series has the best Berserk sword and armor animation, intense and striking to watch.
- Also, the title Berserk (2016) was not found when I searched for it on the Funimation App via ROKU or the website via my tablet. After 30 days of dealing with Funimation support, I received an email that the company had sold the rights to Berserk and would no longer accept digital copy redemption codes.
- Berserk is one of the best animes ever. It has a great plot and good characters. The story is very unique in my opinion. And very dark. which is what really makes it stand apart from other animes.
