- The series began publication in December 1989 under the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. From August 1994, with New Fortune Quest (1), the series has been published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko publishing imprint. Fortune Quest was reprinted in 'New Editions' from 2002 under the Dengeki Bunko imprint.
- It adapts the first volume of 'Fortune Quest'. An anime adaptation of the first 3 volumes of the light novel 'New Fortune Quest' and the first volume of 'New Fortune Quest L1', produced by Easy Film. It aired for 26 episodes between October 18, 1997 and May 23, 1998.
