A similar term with different connotations is "nakige" ("crying game/sob story game"), which usually refers to games with depressing stories that get resolved in the end. Contrast Iyashikei, which is more or less this genre's diametric opposite in Japanese media.

Here an average income is about 3000 USD for a VN (although one has to say some rare get WAY over 10K out of it while many others fail to even make 100 USD). If you want to sell your VN on online sites the profit will probably be very small (except maybe Steam but I have no data on them).Nov 16, 2016

Is nukige worth reading?
  • So, people toss out some names of some good nukige here and there Nukige are sometimes even recommended as starter VNs, and there was an argument I read here where a user had to defend nukige as "worth reading" and not actually bad. I think nukige gets a bad rap due to people's preconceptions, and there are maybe some really good titles out there.
Are there any nukige that are translated?
  • Generally the only nukige that are translated are the ones that were convenient to do so because companies like JAST and MangaGamer had convenient legal access to them. Can't really say there have been many that would be considered above average brought over in English.
